CAREER GOAL

Software Developer / Programmer SUMMARY

Human-computer interfaces, computational complexity, operating system design, multi-platform data management. There are many aspects of the fast-changing field of information technology that both fascinate and excite me. From a young age, I have taken it upon myself to constantly learn new ideas and new technologies -- new concepts, languages and techniques. I am never content to rest on my proverbial laurels and be satisfied with what I've already accomplished -- rather I am always looking out for the next useful thing to learn. In this way I have learned to learn fast; to adapt to new technology as it forms and changes around us; to always be on the lookout for new technologies that can help me grow... and those whose growth I can in turn help precipitate. More than anything else, it is this attitude, combined with a strong work ethic, that puts me in the perfect position to harness the potential that computational technology holds and bring it to bear on those challenges where it may serve with the greatest distinction. SELECTED ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Developed QuickADS, a windows-based point-and-click interface to CHCS, a VAX mainframe-based medical database used by US Department of Defence installations world-wide (Visual Basic, OLE, SQL, some MUMPS work, database interface development, client and customer liaison, product testing/debugging, documentation design and execution).
Developed and maintained a suite of databases to keep track of and report on all student employment, club participation and events, and other activities on a university campus of 4,500 students (MS-Access, SQL, database debelopment, product testing/debugging, documentation, data entry).
Developed applications to assist in testing and designing remote location abilities for US Wireless. These include database applications to maintain test data and network applications to efficiently collect test data from roaming devices (Visual Basic, C++ (MFC), Java, SQL, database interface development. product testing/debugging).
Designed and completed web interfaces to CHCS for specific DoD installations on a per-request basis (HTML, ASP plus Similar skills to those indicated in first entry above).
Participated in the design and development of an office-wide Windows Application to allow employees to manage their time and projects. This involved integration with several Microsoft applications such as Project, Access, Outlook, Excel, etc. (VB, C++ (MFC), OLE, SQL, MAPI integration, database interface development, troubleshooting, product testing/debugging).
Instrumental in the design, program and development through to completion of a user-friendly GUI interface for an online medical database for a large corporate client:
"Developed custom smart pads for CHCS, a primary military medical application resulting in an overwhelming advantage in ease-of-use that leverages the customer's investment in legacy systems while bringing in the true power of a GUI".
Maintained and repaired student microcomputer labs at BCIT including anti-virusing, software installation, hardware and network upgrading and programming. Responsible for managing & troubleshooting networks, hardware configuration.
Served as teacher's assistant for various Computer Science courses with duties including lecturing, grading, lab assistance, tutoring, holding office hours and assisting students, and developing coursework.
Designed and built HTML-based interfaces for back-end databases for numerous web-sites (MS-Access, MySQL, MS SQL Server, Active Server Pages, Perl, PHP, HTML, database interface development, troubleshooting).
Set up and maintained a network with a Unix server for multiple users with various software daemons configured and running (Unix, Apache, Samba, MySQL, Sendmail, troubleshooting, client liaison, network maintenance, hardware configuration).
