25 Wednesday, September 24 Portage la Prairie, MB The roads didn't let up at all. Luckily, I had a good wind at my back almost all day (no, strike that... a *brilliant* wind), but I'm still amazed I made as good time as I did. Still, the last 15mi into town were in the dark, something I won't do again until I'm on better roads. The shoulders still being loose gravel, I had to ride on the roadway. Riding a bike down the middle of a freeway after dark, headlight or no, was the most harrowing thing I have yet done. I was tempted for a while to suffer the gravel all the way in, but after losing yet another tyre to it, I decided the roadway was the lesser of the two evils. Now that aside, the day was pretty good. I slept well last night, which was welcome. BTW, while I remember it, if you're ever in Brandon, a good place to eat is "Huggy's" at 10th and Princess. At a pizza, side dish and coke (free refills) for $7, it's a god deal. And their nachos are brilliant. (though admittedly, I'm still paying for the jalapeņos on mine :)
